But while there is a lot to celebrate in our past, there is almost as much opportunity ahead of us. We are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer for Windows Desktop!

What you will do:

We are looking for a Sr. Software Engineer with Windows systems development experience to join our growing team. You will be responsible for defining and maintaining our Backup product for the Windows Desktop engineering team. You will be responsible for stabilizing and implementing new features for the Windows Backup product. You might be a good fit if you enjoy participating in or leading design sessions, implementing a pragmatic solution to a sticky problem, or digging into a stack trace from a failed test. We have a casual and collaborative work atmosphere where everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued. 

The Right Fit:

  • 5+ or more years professional experience, doing native Windows development using C/C++ using Microsoft Visual Studio. ( i.e. system level API calls, security management, file system process management, OS routines) , or can convincingly demonstrate this level of skill
  • Customer focused - the customer experience comes above everything else
  • Open to cross platform concerns - less use of Windows Registry, avoid platform specific types.
  • Can comprehend this blog post: 
  • Solid understanding of Windows operating system
  • Experience debugging low level client native software
  • Experience with multi-threaded systems
  • Able to recognize lurking complexity, and able to identify non-local costs and benefits
  • Comfortable taking ownership of deliverables as part of a team
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment, both offering and asking for help when it's needed
  • Experience developing software optimized for performance and resource management
  • Clearly able to communicate technical ideas to peers in written and verbal form
  • Articulate business impact of technical decisions to non-technical staff
  • Strong customer service, prioritization, and communication skills to enable collaboration with other teams
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven strong troubleshooting skills
  • Make recommendations to enhance system performance, security, and scale
  • Build user interfaces that are consistent and thrive under heavy customization that earn the trust of our customers
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools like Git and Jira
  • Experienced with agile/lean development processes

We’re looking for someone that is:

  • Passionate about building friendly, easy to use Interfaces.
  • Likes to work closely with other engineers, support, and marketing to help customers.
  • Is comfortable working on their own on a mutually agreed upon prioritization queue (we don’t micromanage, we do make sure tasks are reasonably defined and scoped) 
  • Diligent with quality control. Backblaze prides itself on giving our team autonomy to get work done, do the right thing for our customers, and keep a pace that is sustainable over the long run. As such, we expect everyone to check in code that is stable. We also have a small QA team that operates as a secondary check when needed.

This position can be remote. Regular attendance in the office is expected one week per quarter.
