But while there is a lot to celebrate in our past, there is almost as much opportunity ahead of us. We are seeking a Database Administrator. 

This position will be based out of our headquarters in San Mateo, California. We are conveniently located near CalTrain, and Highways 280 and 101. We also offer a flexible schedule so employees can work remotely when necessary.

A Day in the Life of a DBA: 

  • Monitoring workloads and figuring out how to maximize hardware resources to get the best SQL Server performance (involve server consolidation or virtualization)
  • Performance tuning
  • Good working knowledge of open source databases (Cassandra, Maria)
  • Addressing data integrity issues

The Right Fit:

  • The ideal candidate will have 8+ years’ experience working with Open Source databases such as Cassandra and MariaDB.
  • Previous Server Engineering experience managing a large-scale storage environment is a plus.
  • Has experience with performance/tune queries, partition and archive tables and data integrity and consistency validation.
  • Managing complex database infrastructure.
  • Understanding of other tools / DB’s, such as CockroachDB, TiDB, Yugabyte DC.
  • A passion for the subject matter and the desire to make a difference paramount.
  • Proficiency with scripting, Perl, Python, SQL.
  • Has experience managing ever increasing database scale while providing 100% uptime.
  • Has experience working in a fast-paced environment that will require a combination of tactical and strategic based project work.
  • Is a self-starting and highly motivated individual and able to work quickly and change direction as priorities shift.
  • Has a passion for building and improving all manner of systems and services.
  • Ability to train and mentor other members of the team.
  • Excellent problem solving, investigative, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal as well as written/oral communication skills.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working at a technology/software startup.
  • Kubernetes experience. 
  • Familiarity with configuration management and automation software (Ansible preferred).
  • Grasp of server and storage system hardware and configurations.
