Product Marketing Manager

Location: San Mateo, CA

Backblaze helps customers easily manage and serve the irreplaceable -- from COVID research data to Austin City Limits’ performances by Willie Nelson and the Foo Fighters. The ‘easily’ really matters because there are many extremely robust cloud storage providers out there, yet we’ve chosen to focus on ease-of-use for many businesses rather serving every edge case with added complexities for all businesses.

And this is where you come in: we seek a dynamic Product Marketing Manager who appreciates what storage can really mean and is excited to build out strategies, messages, and programs bringing the value to life as we pursue more, bigger business customers. This is your chance to be both strategic and tactical - working with a committed team of marketers plus colleagues in Sales and Product Management. You’ll be a mini-GM with revenue responsibility and budget to deliver it, much opportunity to stretch and grow, and significant exposure to senior leadership.

This San Mateo-based position (when we can all safely return to the office) reports to our head of product marketing.

 

Responsibilities

  • Craft compelling positioning and messaging informed by corporate strategy, market insights and customer research, and knowledge of our products and those of key competitors
  • Partner with cross-functional teams — Sales, Product Management, PR, Field Marketing, and Design — to develop high-impact go-to-market strategies, and execute launches and programs
  • Roll up your sleeves and personally deliver priority tactics and collateral — ie: emails, case studies, blog posts — to move the needle with segments you own
  • Be the vocal internal advocate of our customers (and prospects)
  • Lead exploration of select new market and channel opportunities, and recommend if / how best to proceed
  • Help enable customer-facing teams with talking points and other materials for the products under you
  • Manage marketing investment decisions to effectively deliver your revenue within your budget
  • Make a difference, each and every day

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technology product marketing experience
  • Proven talent for developing positioning and messaging that’s creative, differentiated, genuinely helpful, and delivers big outcomes
  • Strong track record leading workstreams end-to-end and managing initiatives concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to engage and influence with credibility and confidence
  • Highly analytical mindset - comfortable interpreting and summarizing data, and drawing actionable insights and actions from it
  • Preferably some understanding of cloud storage or data storage challenges, or a strong willingness to learn
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred
