Come join us over here at Backblaze, we're neat! Our approach is guided by honesty, transparency, and a commitment to doing the right thing. If you share the same values and see a position below that excites you, we want to hear from you!

Senior Product Designer

Department: Product Management
Location: San Mateo, CA

Backblaze is a public company that makes storing and using data astonishingly easy - helping developers build new applications, scientists conduct COVID research, and folks like Austin City Limits preserve irreplaceable musical performances. We see tremendous potential rooted in ease of use because extreme robustness doesn’t matter when it’s too complex to use effectively.

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer who has strong domain knowledge in the public cloud storage space to create simple, easy-to-use experiences that accelerate customers to upload bytes to the cloud.

Seeking that autonomy and creative control over the customer experience? Do you have that The-Little-Engine-that-Could attitude of going up against the behemoths in the domain? Do you like working with a bunch of smart, committed, likable people? If you answered ‘yes’ to all, apply to this awesome role!

This position is located in San Mateo, California, but we will also consider remote work as long as you're no more than three time zones away and can come to San Mateo occasionally.

What you’ll do

  • Understand the B2 Cloud Storage business and use cases and deliver intuitive product design solutions.
  • Create desirable experience solutions (including both vision and detailed designs) ranging from low to high visual fidelity designs to help key players to help with their migration needs.
  • Collaborate with other team members to implement the experience solution.
  • Collect customer feedback to inform the product roadmap.
  • Chart a course for yourself in ambiguous situations.
  • Know how to get *stuff* done without anyone telling you what the *stuff* is or how.
  • Lastly, make your manager look like a genius for hiring you.

Who you are

  • 5+ years of industry experience in UX design.
  • An online portfolio UX work.
  • An analytical problem solver who is customer obsessed.
  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows and/or experience in delivering design solutions for technical products of large scope and complexity.
  • Experience in best practices for information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrated history of acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps.
  • Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Sketch, Figma, InVision, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, diverse team, working directly with developers for implementation of designs.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent degree.

Backblaze perks:

  • 100% healthcare for family
  • Competitive compensation and 401k
  • Full-time employees receive option grants
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • MacBook Pro to use for work plus a generous stipend to personalize your workstation
  • Fully stocked micro kitchens and strong coffee
  • Catered breakfast and lunches twice a week
  • Childcare bonus (human children only)
  • Pet-friendly office
  • Generous skills training policy to continue your professional development
  • Culture that supports healthy work-life balance
  • We are conveniently located near CalTrain, and Highways 280 and 101. We also offer a flexible schedule.
